Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between ZTNA and a VPN?
A traditional VPN grants access to the entire network once a user authenticates, meaning anyone who logs in can potentially reach any resource on that network. Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) takes the opposite approach: every user, device, and connection is verified individually, and access is granted only to the specific resources that user is authorized to reach. M4IP uses a split VPN architecture and a device registry to enforce this, so internal and remote staff get the same level of controlled access regardless of where they're connecting from. It can complement or fully replace an existing VPN, depending on your environment.
How does network intrusion detection and prevention work?
M4IP monitors every registered device and notifies users if their device makes any unsolicited access attempt to a resource it isn't authorized to reach. If a network scan is detected, the attempt is blocked in real time, the device is locked from further access, and administrators are notified immediately. This means an attacker who compromises a device in your environment can't use it to map your network or probe for vulnerabilities. Detection happens at the connection layer, before any unauthorized access can take place.
What types of resources does M4IP protect?
M4IP protects anything with an IP address, including applications, file shares, servers, databases, and IoT devices. It applies the same zero trust access controls regardless of resource type, so every connection is authenticated and verified before access is granted. This makes it useful not just for traditional server and application access but also for securing external vendor connections and IoT environments that are typically hard to protect with conventional tools.
Is there a free ZTNA solution for small businesses?
Yes, Mamori offers a free ZTNA solution for small businesses. The free tier includes M4IP's zero trust network access capabilities, giving smaller organizations the same protection against ransomware, unverified access, and network penetration attacks that enterprise deployments receive.
